Three things about Executive Functioning

Writer's picture: Breanne McTaggartBreanne McTaggart
  • Executive functioning is like the air traffic controller of the brain, managing cognitive processes like attention, planning, and organization to achieve goals and navigate daily life successfully.

  • Executive Functioning encompasses nine skills

  1. Sustaining Attention

  2. Emotional Regulation

  3. Impulse Control

  4. Task Initiation

  5. Planning

  6. Organization

  7. Working Memory

  8. Self-Monitoring

  9. Cognitive Flexibility

  • If you or your child struggle with following directions, staying focused on tasks, regulating emotions, starting tasks independently, organization, or time management, it may be due to deficits in executive functioning. I am trained in assessing for executive functioning skills and can provide personalized recommendations to support executive functioning as part of a comprehensive psychoeducational assessment.
