Frequently Asked Questions

What are your fees?

My fees are based on the Psychologist Association of Alberta’s recommended rate of 220.00 dollars per hour. The typical cost for a psychoeducational assessment is 2640.00 dollars. The typical cost for a gifted assessment is 1760.00. Occasionally, depending on the complexity of an assessment, additional hours may be necessary. If any additional hours are recommended this will be discussed with the client first.

What is your cancellation policy?

I ask that any cancellations be made with 24 hours notice. I do understand that this it is not always possible to provide 24 hours notice, and I do not charge for cancellations. No shows will be charged a cancellation rate at the cost of one hour (220.00 dollars).

How do I pay for the assessment?

I accept payment via e-transfer, cash, or credit card (VISA and Mastercard). Full payment is needed prior to release of the psychoeducational assessment report.

Do you direct bill to insurance?

I do not directly bill to insurance but will provide you with a detailed invoice that you can use to submit for reimbursement from your insurance company. Additionally, the cost of assessments can be claimed as medical expenses on your taxes. I can answer further questions about submitting to your insurance during our 15 minute consultation meeting.

What is a psychoeducational assessment and how is it helpful?

A psychoeducational assessment is a comprehensive, personalized view of an individual’s cognitive, academic, and social, emotional, and behavioral functioning. I utilize a strengths-based model in my assessment process. An assessment can provide access to further supports and accommodations. Each assessment report provides a detailed list of personalized recommendations to support students at home and school.

What are some signs that my child/an adult may need a psychoeducational assessment?

There are many different signs that an individual may benefit from a psychoeducational assessment. Some common signs include:

  • Struggles in reading, writing, or math despite putting in effort and being provided additional support at home and school.

  • Has developed worsening negative feelings about school (a complete loss of interest in school, school refusal, skipping classes, a belief that they are a poor student or are not smart).

  • Disparity in skills (a child who displays a strength in math but is struggling in reading and writing, a child with strong oral language skills but is struggling in reading and writing).

  • Low grades on report cards or needing to put in a great deal of time and effort to maintain satisfactory grades.

  • Attention and focus issues: difficulty paying attention in class, difficulty following instructions, forgetfulness, organizational challenges, is easily distracted, hyperactivity and impulsivity, inability to complete homework or chores,

  • Behavioral problems: acting out at home or school, difficulty following rules, impulsiveness.

  • Emotional difficulties: low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, mood swings, social isolation.

How long does it take to get the results back from an assessment and how are the results shared?

Assessments typically take 4 to 8 weeks from our intake session to the final feedback meeting. If you need results sooner, please let me know during our 15 minute consultation and I can let you know if I can accommodate your deadline. The results will be shared in a parent/client feedback session in person or virtually. A psychoeducational assessment report will be provided following the meeting. Information about your assessment will not be released to anyone else without your written consent.

Are meetings done in person or virtually?

Parent intake meetings are done virtually through secure video conferencing. All testing sessions are completed in person, at my home office. The final feedback meeting can be completed virtually or in person.

Can assessment services be provided for individuals who live outside of Calgary?

I can accommodate individuals who live outside of Calgary as long as they are residents of Alberta. We can discuss how to best accommodate this during our 15 minute consultation.
